Challenge
A pharmaceutical company aimed to develop medical education materials for Portuguese physicians to enhance awareness of the comorbidities associated with a progressive respiratory disease and promote a more structured and holistic approach to patient management.
While a substantial body of scientific evidence existed, the information was scattered across numerous publications, making it difficult to translate into a concise, up-to-date, and clinically relevant educational resource. Additionally, there was a need to consolidate emerging concepts, such as the role of treatable traits and integrated patient assessment, into clear, actionable messages that could support clinical decision-making in routine practice.
Solution
Clevidence delivered a comprehensive evidence review and scientific content development project to support the creation of high-quality medical communication materials tailored to the educational needs of healthcare professionals.
The project began with a targeted review of the scientific literature and leading international guidelines to identify the most current and clinically relevant evidence regarding:
· Clinical and epidemiological characteristics of the disease;
· Key disease-related risk factors;
· The clinical burden and prognostic impact of major comorbidities;
· The interplay between respiratory disease and extrapulmonary manifestations;
· International recommendations for comprehensive patient assessment and management.
The identified evidence was systematically reviewed, critically appraised, and synthesized into scientifically robust, practice-oriented content. Particular emphasis was placed on translating complex evidence into clear clinical insights that could facilitate knowledge transfer and support physician engagement.
Based on these findings, Clevidence developed an evidence-based medical presentation incorporating key scientific messages, epidemiological insights, and guideline-driven clinical recommendations, all tailored to the Portuguese healthcare context.
Impact
The project resulted in a robust and up-to-date scientific resource that supported physician education and clinical awareness. By consolidating and translating complex evidence into practical, clinically meaningful
content, the materials helped strengthen understanding of the role of comorbidities in disease progression and burden and highlighted the importance of systematically identifying treatable traits.
Ultimately, the developed resources were used to support the adoption of a more personalized, patient-centered approach to disease management, aligned with contemporary evidence and international best practices.
